Integrated Water Resources Management
Managing water for people, ecosystems and the economy.
Overview
Water sits at the centre of Africa’s development and climate challenges. CLEEN brings hydrological science, modelling and governance expertise together to help basin authorities, utilities and governments manage water resources sustainably and equitably.
We combine spatial hydrology, remote sensing and modelling (SWAT and beyond) with water accounting and stakeholder-led planning — producing the evidence and tools decision-makers need to balance competing demands for water across agriculture, energy, ecosystems and communities.
From basin assessments and water accounting to climate-resilient water planning and the water–energy–food nexus, we support integrated approaches that keep water secure under a changing climate.
Capabilities
What we offer
Hydrological Modelling & Assessment
Catchment and basin modelling (SWAT and related tools), spatial hydrology and remote-sensing analysis to quantify water availability, flows and stress under current and future conditions.
Water Accounting & Allocation
Basin-scale water accounting and allocation analysis that reveals how water is used across sectors and informs fair, sustainable allocation decisions.
Climate-Resilient Water Planning
Integrating climate projections into water resource planning, including risk assessments for reservoirs and hydropower, to keep water systems resilient to a changing climate.
Water–Energy–Food Nexus
Nexus analysis connecting water management with energy generation and food production, supporting infrastructure and policy decisions that account for the trade-offs between them.
