Ghana Water Company Water-Quality Monitoring & Tano Riverbank Restoration
Water-quality monitoring across the supply chain and support for restoration of the Tano River banks at the Abesim Headworks, undertaken with Ghana Water Company Limited.
The challenge
Safe drinking-water supply depends on consistent water-quality monitoring from source through treatment to the point of use. At the Abesim Headworks, failing banks of the Tano River also threatened the raw-water source that supplies the treatment works.
Our approach
As Intern in Water Quality, Water Supply and Production, Ransford Wusah Bakuri collected and analysed water samples across treatment plants, standpipes and household pipes for physico-chemical and biological parameters.
He also supported a team restoring the failing banks of the Tano River at the Abesim Headworks.
Outcomes
The monitoring provided physico-chemical and biological water-quality data spanning the supply chain from treatment plants to household taps.
The riverbank restoration work helped protect the failing banks of the Tano River at the Abesim Headworks.
