The challenge
Sustaining the ecological health of a large river basin depends on understanding how much water the environment itself requires, yet reliable estimates of environmental flows demand hydrological models that can be trusted against real-world observations. The Lerma–Santiago Basin required rigorous modelling to support water-authority decisions on allocation and ecosystem protection.
Our approach
As Research Consultant for Hydrological Modelling and Water Accounting, Romeo Tweneboah-Koduah conducted environmental-flows hydrological modelling for the Lerma–Santiago Basin. This included a model intercomparison across twenty-five mizuRoute simulated discharge products, each evaluated against in-situ observations at one hundred and twenty-two gauges.
He built reproducible analytical pipelines designed to place the modelling results in the hands of water-authority decision-makers, ensuring the analysis could be repeated and extended.
Outcomes
The work produced a benchmarked assessment of simulated discharge products for the basin, grounded in comparison against a dense network of gauged observations.
The reproducible pipelines give the water authority a durable analytical basis for environmental-flows decisions in the Lerma–Santiago Basin.
