The challenge
Much water use in basins such as the White Volta takes place informally, outside formal allocation systems, making it difficult to manage water rights fairly. Understanding who these users are and the challenges they face is a first step towards addressing the issue.
Our approach
As Water Resources Expert, Rev. Prof. Ing. Eric Antwi Ofosu identified informal water-use communities in the White Volta Basin.
He assessed the water users and the challenges they faced under the CGIAR Challenge Program on Food and Water (CP 66).
Outcomes
The work identified informal water-use communities in the White Volta Basin and characterised their users and challenges.
The findings contribute to the wider CP 66 examination of water rights in informal economies across the Limpopo and Volta basins.
