The challenge
Water resources and biodiversity are closely interdependent, and managing that relationship at a subnational level requires tools that can represent how the two systems influence one another across different provincial contexts. A modelling approach was needed to support this understanding.
Our approach
As Research Consultant, Dr Benjamin Batinge worked with two modellers to build a subnational system dynamics model of the water-biodiversity nexus across Limpopo, the Western Cape, the Eastern Cape and the Northern Cape.
Outcomes
The collaboration produced a subnational system dynamics model of the water-biodiversity nexus spanning four South African provinces, providing a tool to explore the interactions between water resources and biodiversity.
