SANI-UP Faecal Sludge Management Research

SustainabilityKNUST Smart Sanitation (Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation)Ghana (with Uganda, Thailand, Colombia, Burkina Faso)2012

Co-coordination of the SANI-UP research project on improving faecal sludge management in peri-urban areas, with supervision of doctoral researchers.

The challenge

Peri-urban areas often lack effective systems for managing faecal sludge, creating public-health and environmental risks. The SANI-UP project set out to improve faecal sludge management through research spanning several countries.

Our approach

As Post-Doc Fellow, Rev. Prof. Ing. Eric Antwi Ofosu co-coordinated the SANI-UP project on improving faecal sludge management in peri-urban areas.

He supervised three PhD students, guiding the research that underpinned the project's work across its participating countries.

Outcomes

The project advanced research into improved faecal sludge management for peri-urban areas.

The supervision of three doctoral researchers helped build the research capacity supporting the wider SANI-UP effort.
