The challenge
The Akosombo and Kpong dams are critical national infrastructure whose safety must be kept under review. A preliminary survey was needed to identify the condition of their key safety elements.
Our approach
As Hydraulics Engineer, Rev. Prof. Ing. Eric Antwi Ofosu conducted a preliminary reconnaissance survey of the dam safety elements of the Akosombo and Kpong dams.
He assessed spillway capacities, leakages, cracks and potential breach points across the two structures.
Outcomes
The survey provided a preliminary assessment of the safety condition of the Akosombo and Kpong dams.
The findings on spillway capacity, leakages, cracks and potential breach points give the Water Resources Commission a basis for further safety review.
