Moving IMPACT: Solar Mini-Grids & Rural E-Mobility
Stakeholder engagement and outreach for a multinational research programme on solar mini-grids and small-scale EV charging in agricultural areas, connecting clean-energy and electric-mobility research to rural farming communities in Ghana.
The challenge
Solar mini-grids hold real promise for powering productive agricultural activity in rural Africa, but translating clean-energy and electric-mobility research into farming communities requires trusted local relationships and a clear engagement pathway.
The Moving IMPACT programme — funded under the UKRI Ayrton Challenge and led by Imperial College London — needed to ground its Ghana component in the realities of rural agricultural users while coordinating partners across the UK, Kenya, Rwanda and Ghana.
Our approach
As Stakeholder & Outreach Officer for the Ghana component, Romeo Tweneboah-Koduah coordinated stakeholder engagement across academic partners in the UK, Kenya, Rwanda and Ghana, and led outreach, dissemination and communication of project findings to community, government and sector stakeholders.
He built the local relationships needed to translate research on solar mini-grids and small-scale EV charging into rural agricultural contexts, ensuring the programme’s evidence reached the people and institutions able to act on it.
Outcomes
The engagement work embedded the programme within Ghana’s rural agricultural communities and connected international research partners to local government and sector stakeholders.
It laid the groundwork for clean-energy and e-mobility solutions to be adopted where they can raise agricultural productivity and rural incomes.
