Green People's Energy — Solar Pump Irrigation Training
Training in solar pump irrigation systems for smallholder farmers, with a demonstration site, benchmarked technologies, a business model and competency-based training for installers, credit officers and extension officers.
The challenge
Solar pump irrigation can extend water access for smallholder farmers, but its uptake depends on suitable technology choices, a workable business model and a trained ecosystem of installers and support staff. A structured programme was needed to build these foundations in Ghana.
Our approach
As Project Lead and Trainer, Rev. Prof. Ing. Eric Antwi Ofosu trained 70 people in solar pump irrigation systems, prepared training manuals and developed a three-acre solar pump irrigation demonstration site.
Working as Technical Consultant and Trainer, Dr Felix Amankwah Diawuo supported the benchmarking of solar pump irrigation technologies for smallholder farmers, the definition of a business model and national framework, and the delivery of competency-based training to installers, credit officers and extension officers.
Outcomes
The programme trained 70 people, produced training manuals and established a three-acre demonstration site for solar pump irrigation.
It benchmarked suitable technologies, defined a business model and national framework, and delivered competency-based training across the installer, credit and extension roles that support smallholder adoption.
