Ghana WASH Sector Strategic Development Plan

Ghana WASH Sector Strategic Development Plan

SustainabilityMinistry of Sanitation and Water Resources, GhanaGhana2021

Preparation of Ghana’s Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Sector Strategic Development Plan, integrating integrated water resources management, climate-change adaptation and gender mainstreaming.

The challenge

Ghana’s water, sanitation and hygiene sector required a coherent national strategy to guide investment and policy — one that reflected integrated water resources management principles and responded to the pressures of a changing climate.

Our approach

As IWRM expert, Rev. Prof. Ing. Eric Antwi Ofosu conducted a review of relevant water policies, engaged stakeholders, and organised stakeholder workshops to inform the plan.

His contribution focused on the integrated water resources management component, alongside climate-change adaptation and gender mainstreaming, ensuring the strategy addressed equity and resilience as well as service delivery.

Outcomes

The work produced a WASH Sector Strategic Development Plan for Ghana, supported by stakeholder consensus and grounded in IWRM, climate and gender considerations.

The plan provides the sanitation and water sector with a strategic framework to prioritise investment and coordinate delivery nationwide.
