Ghana Goes Solar — Public Facilities Solar PV Assessment

Structural and environmental assessment of public facilities for the installation of solar PV systems of at least 30kW under the Ghana Goes Solar programme.

The challenge

Installing rooftop solar PV on public buildings requires confidence that the structures can carry the additional load and that the works will be environmentally sound. A large set of public facilities had to be assessed on both counts before installation could proceed.

Our approach

As Civil Engineer, Rev. Prof. Ing. Eric Antwi Ofosu assessed the structural integrity of 100 public facilities for the installation of solar PV of at least 30kW.

As Environmental Specialist, Romeo Tweneboah-Koduah undertook the environmental impact assessment across 57 public facilities and developed the environmental and social management plan.

Outcomes

The structural integrity of 100 public facilities was assessed for solar PV installation of at least 30kW.

The environmental impact assessment across 57 facilities and the resulting environmental and social management plan provided the safeguards framework for the installations.
