Anyari Watershed Surface and Groundwater Quantification (Africa RISING)

Anyari Watershed Surface and Groundwater Quantification (Africa RISING)

Water ResourcesIWMI Africa RISING ProjectUpper East Region, Ghana2016

Quantification of surface and groundwater resources and irrigation potential of the Anyari watershed through pumping tests, capacity assessment and crop water requirement analysis.

The challenge

Realising the irrigation potential of the Anyari watershed depends on knowing how much surface and groundwater is available and how it matches crop demand. This required systematic quantification of the watershed's resources.

Our approach

As Water Resources Expert, Rev. Prof. Ing. Eric Antwi Ofosu quantified the surface and groundwater resources and irrigation potential of the Anyari watershed.

He carried out borehole pumping tests, groundwater capacity assessment and crop water requirement analysis to establish the watershed's resource base.

Outcomes

The work quantified the surface and groundwater resources and irrigation potential of the Anyari watershed.

The results provide the Africa RISING project with an evidence base for planning irrigation in the Upper East Region.
