Africa Climate-Resilient Infrastructure Fund — GCF Proposal
Climate adaptation and mitigation modelling lead for the Africa Finance Corporation’s USD 765.1 million Infrastructure Climate Resilient Fund proposal to the Green Climate Fund — modelling climate-change impacts on transport, energy and telecommunications infrastructure across Africa. The proposal was approved by the GCF.
The challenge
The Africa Finance Corporation set out to raise a major climate-resilience fund for African infrastructure, and needed rigorous modelling of how climate change would affect transport, energy and telecommunications assets to make the investment case to the Green Climate Fund.
Our approach
As climate adaptation and mitigation modelling lead, Dr Benjamin Batinge modelled and simulated the impact of climate change on transport (ports and roads), energy (solar PV) and telecommunications (telecom masts) infrastructure across Africa, underpinning AFC’s funding proposal to the GCF.
Outcomes
The USD 765.1 million Infrastructure Climate Resilient Fund proposal was successfully approved by the Green Climate Fund.
The modelling provided the technical evidence base behind one of the larger climate-resilience commitments for African infrastructure.
